There’s nothing we at the Dorsett Hyundai Tire Department love more than a good set of healthy tires. Good and healthy tires mean that not only will your car be driving smooth and comfortably, but also that your braking, accelerating and general driving experience will be safe as possible. Checking your tire health regularly, either on your own at home or by coming in for our certified professionals to take a look, is pertinent for your safety and to help get the most miles from your tires.
These are just a few things our team takes into consideration when inspecting your tires. The biggest red flag that we find to be a threat to your safety is when your tire tread is balding. When this happens, your car will take longer to stop. When stopping unexpectedly, whether it be on dry, snowy, icy or wet ground, it’s important that the stop is borderline immediate. Even more so, when the ground isn’t dry and your tire tread is minimal, you are more likely to hydroplane and put yourself and other drivers at higher risk of injury.
So not only is having healthy tires important, but weather-appropriate tires too. Snow is never a surprise to us here in Indiana, yet so many people often go without appropriate winter tires during the harsh weather. Winter tires, studded or not, are created to withstand the cold better. This includes having better traction on slippery and icy roads. The extra rubber allows the tire to flex to the ground for better and stronger contact. Winter tires are not recommended to be used interchangeably with normal tires. Winter tires will deplete vehicle performance when they are not being used on terrain they were made for.
