Safety recalls are issued by the National Highway Safety Transportation Administration (NHSTA), an agency of the executive branch of the country. The purpose of the NHSTA can be summed up by its motto, "save lives, prevent injuries, reduce vehicle-related crashes." In this vein, it pairs up with auto manufacturers to notify drivers if the vehicle they currently own has been determined to have a safety-related defect. While safety recalls are not to be taken lightly, car owners shouldn't panic if they find their car has been recalled for a safety issue. It doesn't mean they are in imminent danger, just that there is a potential for one if left to chance. Virtually every manufacturer has found one of its models on the recall list, and Hyundai is no exception. Like all the other manufacturers they follow a set procedure for notifying the people who own these vehicles that they should bring it into their local dealer.
If your Hyundai has been recalled, you will receive a letter from Hyundai USA containing the following:
If your car is recalled, all repairs will be done free of charge. With that in mind, you may have already received or will receive a recall notification about the following issues.
As part of a product improvement plan, Hyundai has extended the warranty for present and subsequent owners of 2011 – 2019 Sonatas and Santa Fes. The existing 10 years will be 12 years, and 100,000 miles will be upped to 120,00 miles.
A recall was issued for 2011 through 2013 Hyundai Tucson SUVs to inspect for and repair engine oil pans that can develop a leak. If not addressed, the engine may stall due to a lack of sufficient oil, possibly resulting in engine damage. Another scenario is that the leaking oil can create a fire hazard and increase the risk of a crash.
